Türkiye, Iraq Deepen Security Cooperation to Support Regional Stability and Investment Climate

BAGHDAD — July 9, 2025 | GainEstates News
Türkiye and Iraq are stepping up joint efforts to improve border security and counter-terrorism coordination, following a high-level visit to Baghdad by Türkiye’s National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) chief İbrahim Kalın. The move is being seen as a significant signal to investors seeking stability in one of the Middle East’s most strategically important corridors.

Kalın’s meetings with top Iraqi leadership focused on securing mutual borders and eliminating terrorist threats that have historically disrupted energy corridors, logistics routes, and infrastructure projects. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to building a safer, more stable region—essential for unlocking economic growth and cross-border development.

“Türkiye is committed to building a terror-free future through coordinated action with its regional partners,” Kalın said during the visit.

Security as a Catalyst for Economic Growth

This visit comes at a time when both Türkiye and Iraq are working to stabilise critical trade and energy routes. Joint security efforts are expected to provide protection for oil pipelines, cross-border trade, and infrastructure investment zones, many of which have faced disruption in recent years due to regional instability.

Diplomatic sources indicated that discussions also touched on recent Iran-Israel tensions and the status of regional ceasefire efforts. The goal: to ensure broader peace and reduce volatility that could deter long-term investment in the region.

Turkmen Regions and Local Development Stability

Kalın also held talks regarding Turkmen-populated areas in Iraq, focusing on ensuring safety and preparing for upcoming local elections. These areas are increasingly viewed as potential sites for community-led housing, infrastructure, and public services investment, especially if political and security conditions continue to improve.

For property developers and regional investors, stabilised governance and secure land rights in these areas could unlock opportunities for new residential and commercial developments.

Strategic Alignment Fuels Confidence in the Türkiye-Iraq Corridor

Improved bilateral cooperation on security is expected to support broader efforts between Ankara and Baghdad in trade, energy, and infrastructure. It also reflects a regional trend toward joint security frameworks that enable long-term planning for development zones and economic corridors.

For stakeholders in logistics, industrial real estate, energy infrastructure, and public-private partnerships, this signals a lower-risk environment for new projects spanning Southeastern Türkiye, Northern Iraq, and beyond.

Why It Matters for GainEstates Readers

The Türkiye-Iraq security partnership directly influences:

Energy corridor security (crucial for oil and gas investments)

Cross-border logistics and industrial development

Municipal real estate growth in emerging stable zones

Investor confidence in Middle Eastern infrastructure markets

As Türkiye works to stabilise its borders and deepen cooperation with Iraq, investors can expect a more predictable operating environment, paving the way for long-term regional projects.
